I know I’ve been a bit lax with blog updates recently, and we’ve put the podcast on hold for the moment – I’m sorry for that. But here’s just a small snippet of what is happening in my life and with my law firm as we head into summer…
- I’m moving to a new office at the end of this month. My current office is too far from home with traffic, and just not convenient. New office is 5 minutes, door-to-door – love it! It’s an office-share environment with 15-20 other solo practitioners. If you are still working from home and looking to move into an office, if you can find a situation like this, I say go for it.
- My kids continue to grow… and fight… and spend our money… but we love them all anyway, right? The youngest, Henry, just turned 1 last month and our oldest is having his 5th birthday this weekend.
- We are starting to plan for some time away from the office. I’m headed to Las Vegas for a marketing mastermind in July, flying back to NC and almost immediately heading out for a family vacation to Isle of Palms in Charleston, SC.
- My Mom is in town to visit this weekend, which is great because we don’t have any other family in the area and she is the only true “grandparent” our kids know – and they LOVE their “Na-Na”!
Oh, and the law firm is booming. I’m actually trying to find ways to turn away people who call! (Good problem to have, right?)
One of the things I’ve decided to do is to start turning down litigation files. This is an immediate and quick way to disqualify potential clients that are overly hostile – and allows me to focus on the clients that are willing to find ways to resolve their case out of court.
This was an extremely difficult decision for me, but in the long run, I believe it was the right one – for my stress levels, time management, and overall personal happiness.
I don’t want to take up too much of your time today, but I know it’s been awhile since I wrote, so I just wanted to keep you abreast of what is happening in my life and with my law practice.
Going forward, I don’t know for sure when or even if I will start-up the podcast again. I’m moving towards really systematizing and streamlining my law practice so that I can spend more time with my family and do some more traveling.
Over the past couple months, I’ve discovered a number of tools and tricks to help me in this process. I’ll do my best to shoot you another email when I discover something I think you will love.
As always, keep up the marketing – this is an amazing profession we are a part of. Do something magical for one of your clients today.
